Behind the Scenes: Creating Fashion for the Fearless Femme

At Modern Vixen Vintage, fashion isn’t just about clothes—it’s about embracing who you are, feeling confident, and looking fabulous no matter your size. From the very beginning, I knew I wanted my brand to represent all fearless femmes out there, which is why size inclusivity is a cornerstone of everything we do. Every piece in our collection comes in sizes XS to 4X, because fashion should never be limited to a narrow range. If a supplier doesn’t offer that size range, it doesn’t make the cut at Modern Vixen. Period.

Why Size Inclusivity Matters

Growing up, I struggled to find clothes that made me feel empowered—let alone retro or pinup styles that truly spoke to my personality. I knew that when I launched Modern Vixen Vintage, I wanted it to be a space where all women and femmes could find pieces that fit and flatter their bodies, whether they’re XS or 4X. When we say "Fashion for the Fearless Femme," that includes every body, every shape, every size.

While I didn’t personally struggle with my weight, I’ve seen countless family members, friends, and people across social media sharing their frustration with the lack of stylish, comfortable options in inclusive sizing. They want clothes that make them feel empowered and fabulous, and they shouldn’t have to compromise.

I’m committed to making sure that no one feels excluded from this style, because vintage fashion is about more than nostalgia—it's about celebrating femininity, confidence, and individuality. It’s a tribute to the glamorous, unapologetic women who came before us, and it belongs to everyone.

Why "Femmes" and Not Just "Fearless Females"

You might have noticed that I use the term “femme” rather than just “female” when describing Modern Vixen Vintage. This is intentional, and it reflects a core value of the brand: inclusivity. Not every femme-presenting person identifies as female, and it’s important to me to honor that. By using inclusive language like "femme," I’m making sure that everyone, regardless of gender identity, feels seen and welcomed in our community.

As someone who supports the LGBTQIA+ community, I believe that fashion is for everyone, regardless of how they identify. Modern Vixen Vintage celebrates individuality and self-expression in all forms. Whether you’re a cis woman, a non-binary femme, or anywhere in between, you deserve to feel confident and fabulous in the clothes you wear. By embracing inclusive language, I hope to create a space where all fearless femmes feel empowered to embrace their personal style.

Working Toward a Disabled-Friendly and Safe Shopping Experience

At Modern Vixen Vintage, accessibility and safety are top priorities. I have invisible disabilities, and while they may not always be visible, they shape how I approach my everyday life and my business. As part of my ongoing commitment to health and safety during the pandemic, I wear a KN95 mask while packing orders and vending at in-person events, as well as stay updated on all vaccines, not just the COVID vaccine.

For those who prefer or need a more personalized experience, I offer personal video shopping sessions. These sessions are not only great for those who want to shop from the comfort of their homes but are also a valuable tool for customers who are visually impaired. By guiding you through our collections, describing products in detail, and helping with selections, I strive to make sure every customer has an inclusive shopping experience.

Additionally, Modern Vixen Vintage offers accessibility features like plastic options for earrings, such as the Bubble Wand Delight Earrings, for customers with metal allergies. We also tag purses that are large enough to fit an EpiPen, making it easier to find items that combine both style and practicality.

Whether visible or invisible, Modern Vixen Vintage is dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive shopping experience for all our customers.

My Pinup Fashion Journey

My own journey into the world of pinup fashion began at 16. Growing up, I spent hours watching old movies with my grandparents—Singin’ in the Rain, How to Marry a Millionaire, It’s Always Fair Weather—those glamorous, timeless films sparked my love for vintage style. I was mesmerized by the stunning fashion and how each actress carried herself with grace and boldness.

But it wasn't just the films that inspired me. I started watching YouTubers like Cherry Dollface and Pinup Doll Ashley Marie, who taught me everything from perfecting retro hairdos to creating that signature winged eyeliner. They helped me build the confidence to not only embrace the pinup aesthetic but also to bring it to life in a way that felt authentic to who I am.

Crafting the Modern Vixen Collection

Now, I channel that love for old-school glamour into every piece I curate for Modern Vixen Vintage. Whether it’s designing bold, statement-making accessories or ensuring that each garment fits beautifully across all sizes, my goal is to help every customer feel like the fierce, confident femme they are. I’ve even kept a little piece of that personal history in the brand by creating pieces inspired by my love for the classics.
